Summit Remembers Its Troops on Memorial Day
The annual Memorial Day ceremony packed the Village Green in honor of the fallen.
Summit residents packed the Village Green in the annual remembrance of Memorial Day on Monday morning. Following a parade, the ceremony was led by former Navy Lt. Commander and current Ward 2 Councilman Pat Hurley (a Desert Storm veteran).
Several veterans from the community took the stage including William Rapp, Henry Bassman, Anton Evers and Memorial Day Parade co-chair Andy Smith. Mayor Ellen Dickson and Summit public schools students also read tributes in honor of Memorial Day.
The ceremony lasted around a half-hour in temperatures passing 80 degrees. Most of the residents sought out the shade, while the Summit High School marching band took turns belting out traditional Memorial Day tunes.
