Summit residents packed the Village Green in the annual remembrance of Memorial Day on Monday morning. Following a parade, the ceremony was led by former Navy Lt. Commander and current Ward 2 Councilman Pat Hurley (a Desert Storm veteran).  Several veterans from the community took the stage including William Rapp, Henry Bassman, Anton Evers and Memorial Day Parade co-chair Andy Smith. Mayor Ellen Dickson and Summit public schools students also read tributes in honor of Memorial Day. The ceremony lasted around a half-hour in temperatures passing 80 degrees. Most of the residents sought out the shade, while the Summit High School marching band took turns belting out traditional Memorial Day tunes.
