Summit Runner O'Neill Reported Safe Following Boston Marathon
O'Neill was still running when the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon.
Runner Meaghan O’Neill, 18, of Summit is the final runner from the city reported safe following the bombings on Monday at the Boston Marathon.
Patch tried to reach out to the O’Neill’s phone number listed on the White Pages following the marathon, but the line was off the hook.
According to an individual race tracker, O’Neill reached the 40K mark at 2:51:13 p.m.
The Alternative Press published an article on her experience in Boston.
They quoted O’Neill saying: "It was really kind of crazy. There were lots of tears, mostly, I think, out of uncertainty of the situations of loved ones near the finish line. Not knowing exactly what had happened - there were all sorts of people throwing out all sorts of casualties and injuries and no one knew who was right - was the worst part of my experience yesterday. That uncertainty, that expectation of the worst in desperate hope reality will be better. People fear the unknown for good reason, I'll say that much." O’Neill did not find out about what occurred at the finish line until 20 minutes after the explosions, TAP reported. She said people were finding out the information via their smartphones.
She was participating in the Boston Marathon to raise funds for cancer with the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team. O’Neill was running from Hopkinton to Boston.
