Englewood Man Sexually Assaulted Child Twice, Bergen County Prosecutors Say

A Bergen County man was arrested Thursday for sexually assaulting a child twice this year, prosecutors say.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — An Englewood man was arrested Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting a child, prosecutors said.

Fidel Fernandez, 62, was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said that on Wednesday, the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a child under 13 that had occurred in Englewood, prosecutors said.

An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department determined that he sexually assaulted and endangered a chlid under 13 in Englewood on May 10 and June 22 of this year, prosecutors said.

He was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, prosecutors said.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
