BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Do you know about the Hermitage, a National Historic Landmark in Ho-Ho-Kus? The staff is encouraging more people to learn about the site and take part in its upcoming events, including one involving wine and bourbon.

The state-owned park and museum is a historic landmark because of its Gothic Revival architecture, but it also has an interesting history, noted a spokesperson.

During the Revolutionary War, after the Battle of Monmouth, George Washington and his aides (including Hamilton) visited the homestead for a rest. In fact, Aaron Burr ended up courting and marrying the woman who lived there, Theodosia Prevost. They were married at the home in 1782.

The Rosencrantz family bought the Hermitage in 1807 and lived in it until 1970, the spokesperson said, when it was bequeathed to the State of New Jersey.

Those who work for the site have run tours and events there, and would love for more North Jersey residents to partake.

The next event is "A Sip of History," an evening of history and wine and bourbon tasting at the Hermitage.

"Tour the beautiful museum and then join fellow history buffs as you partake in flights of bourbon and wines," the site advertised. "There will be a tricky tray and more fun things."

The event is taking place this Friday.
