80-Year-Old Woman Killed In Elizabeth Tractor Trailer Crash: State PD
The Freightliner tractor trailer rear-ended a disabled car parked in the right lane, injuring one and killing another, police said.
ELIZABETH, NJ - An 80-year-old woman from New York was killed in a Sunday night New Jersey Turnpike collision with a tractor trailer, authorities said.
The crash took place at around 10:39 p.m. on Sunday night on the New Jersey Turnpike outer roadway near milepost 99.9 in Elizabeth, a spokesperson for the New Jersey State Police told Patch.
An initial investigation revealed that a Freightliner tractor was traveling in the right lane and a Ford Econoline was parked disabled in the right lane ahead of the Freightliner when the front of the Freightliner struck the rear of the Ford, the spokesperson said.

The driver of the Ford, Lawrence Demeo, 59, of Farmingdale, N.Y., sustained serious injuries in the rear-end crash. The passenger in the Ford, Dawn Cole, 80, of East Norwich, N.Y., sustained fatal injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner did not report any injuries, the state police spokesperson said. The crash remains under investigation.
