Crash Sends Three to Hospital

A car collided with a box truck on Pascack Road in Hillsdale.

Three men were hospitalized after the driver of a Toyota 4Runner swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed into a box truck Friday afternoon, according to Hillsdale Police Sergeat Joseph Mazzeo.

The SUV was travelling southbound on Pascack Road in Hillsdale shortly before 1 p.m. when the accident occured, police said.

Witnesses said the driver of the SUV was swerving before the accident and that he told them he had been reading a text message when the crash occured.

"He took his eyes off the road," Mazzeo said.

The SUV driver was taken to HackensackUMC for head and neck injuries, according to police. The driver and a passenger in the box truck were taken to HUMC for leg and lower back injuries.

A small amount of diesel fuel leaked from a crack in the box truck's fuel tank, according to Mazzeo. Bergen County Hazmat officials had to drain the tank before the truck could be removed from the scene.
