Property Revaluations, Dispatch Question on Agenda This Week

The Hillsdale Council will meet in St. John's Parish Center Tuesday due to construction in the Municipal Building.

Hillsdale homeowners may see a change in their property taxes next year due to a revalutation taking place over the next few months.

The appraisals, which are expected to be completed in October, are being performed by Realty Appraisal Company of West New York. A list of the company's field inspectors is available here.

Borough Tax Assessor Patrick Wilkins is scheduled to give an overview of the program at the Hillsdale Council meeting this week.

The council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's Parish Center at 69 Valley Avenue due to construction in the Municipal Building.

Emergency Dispatching

The Hillsdale Council is also scheduled to vote on a resolution for a public question on the November ballot.

A group of residents gathered 1,000 signatures to put 24 hours each day because moving emergency dispatching to the county's Mahwah facility, as officials had previously considered, would have caused the department to be closed at night.

Since then, the committee investigating the borough's dispatching options found using civilian dispatchers in the Police Department will still at night. Officials said they would pursue that plan instead of moving the service to Mahwah.

Council members said they would keep the question on the ballot unless PBA representatives decided it was no longer necessary.

Oath of Office

New Hillsdale Councilman John MacEwen is scheduled to be sworn-in during Tuesday's meeting.

MacEwen will replace former Councilwoman Leslie Becker, who .

MacEwen will be the second member to join the council this summer. after he resigned earlier this year.
