Should Westwood Ave. Be a Historic District?
The Westwood Historic Commission is considering designating Westwood Avenue and some surrounding sites as a historic district.
Westwood officials are considering designating Westwood Avenue as the borough's second historic district.
The plan would , according to borough Preservation Consultant Gregory Dietrich. Buildings along Westwood Avenue, and some on Broadway, Center and Fairview Avenues would be protected.
Any property owner in the district who wanted to make changes to the exterior of a building would need to get the Westwood Historic Commission to give a plan the go-ahead and receive final approval from the Westwood Planning Board.

Several property owners came to a meeting of the commission last week and spoke against the plan, which they believe will .
Dietrich described the process of working with property owners as "a dialogue." The commission would not simply reject any plans, but would work with the owners to come to an agreeable solution that would preserve downtown Westwood's architecture, he said.
