Water Heater Catches Fire in Brookside School

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighters from Westwood, Woodcliff Lake and Hillsdale responded to a call at Thursday morning after a custodian reported a fire in a boiler room.

A large commercial water heater caught fire, according to Westwood Fire Marshal Darren Blankenbush. The cause of the fire was still under investigation, but it did not appear suspicious, he said.

The fire was contained to the room because school officials kept the fire door closed, Blankenbush said. A sprinkler system in the room extinguished the fire.

There was no damage to any other part of the school.

Principal Matt Wilson said the incident should not prevent the school from opening to students in September.
