Westwood Girl Scouts Help Track Butterflies

Scouts from troops 4010 and 4730 participated in Monarch Watch, which tracks the migration habits of butterflies.

Westwood Girl Scouts from troops 4010 and 4730 recently visited the Rockland Country Club for a "Monarch tagging day."

The scouts learned about the life cycles of Monarch Butterflies and searched for Monarchs on the club's golf course as a part of Monarch Watch, a program based at the University of Kansas which helps preserve the butterflies.

The club is an official Monarch way station which has milkweeds, the plants Monarch Butterflies lay their eggs on, according to course superintendent Matt Ceplo.
