Westwood High School Unveils New Gym, Facilities
The school's physical education facilities underwent renovations over the summer.
Westwood Regional High School renovated one of its gyms and other physical education and health facilities over the summer, according to Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller.
The project was the first part of a two-phase project to improve the school's indoor phys ed space, Zoeller said. The floor of the lower gym was completely sanded down —possibly for the first time since it was built — then repainted and resealed. The walls were also repainted and bleachers were added to the room for the first time. An old green dividing wall was also replaced with a drop curtain.
Two locker rooms were also renovated, with new floors, bathroom facilities, lighting and lockers.  A new storage area was also created, which Zoeller said will allow phys ed equipment to be stored in a better-organized and more secure environment.Â

The school also added a new auxiliary phys ed room, which has a padded floor and walls to be used for yoga, pilates and wrestling, among other activities. The room is naturally lit with skylights with parabolic lenses — or electric lights on cloudy days.
The new facilities were built by contractors for $719,300 in conjunction with the district's own buildings and grounds staff. The second phase of the project, which will renovate the upper gym and add two male and two female team rooms, is scheduled to take place next summer.
