WYCKOFF, NJ — A Wyckoff resident and pipe major for the Sword of Light Pipe Band passed away in peace earlier this week, an obituary published by Vander Plaat Funeral Home said.

William Cunningham, who was the principal bagpipe player in the band, headquartered in New York, died at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife Carol, his daughters, grandchildren, sisters and many nieces and nephews.

A "proud member" of the pipe band, Cunningham was also a member of fraternal organizations, including the Salaam Shriners, the Scottish Rite Freemasonry and the Masonic Kilties of New Jersey. He was also a part of the Catholic Council of Electrical Workers, and was an avid sailor, the obituary said.

He will be remembered in a visitation this weekend at Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff.
