CRS Students Taste the Rainbow

Local market donates colorful fruits as part of a national healthy eating initiative.

If you walked into Colonial Road School this week, you might have noticed an abundance of students wearing the same color: Purple or blue on Monday, white on Tuesday, red on Wednesday.

The colorful clothing was part of a national campaign to encourage children to eat more fruits and vegetable. P.A.C.K. Week — Pack Assorted Colors for Kids — is a fun and educational programmed sponsored by grape company Welch's. Its goal: To dazzle kids with color (and get them to eat healthy at the same time).

The focus is on eating a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, and getting children excited about healthy eating, school nurse Jill Piccoli, R.N., told Patch.

To help students achieve this rainbow of nutrients, Corrado's Family Market in Wayne  donated healthy snacks for every student, in the appropriate color for each day of P.A.C.K. week.: Blueberries on Monday, bananas on Tuesday, strawberries on Wednesday, carrots on Thursday (for the color orange) and green grapes on Friday (green day).

For parents, if you don't believe your kid was really snacking on fruits and veggies (without complaining), Patch has the pictures to prove it.
