Financier With Distinguished Career, Former Wyckoff Resident, Dies

WYCKOFF, NJ — A president of a foreign profit corporation and two financial services companies, who is formerly of Wyckoff, died Monday at age 81, according to his obituary published by Vander Plaat Funeral Home.

John Connors passed away at home with his wife by his side, his obituary said. He had retired to Florida in 2014.

He had a distinguished career with more than 40 years in banking and financial services, serving as President of Bradford National Corporation, Boston Financial Data Services, and finally of Colson Services Corporation. He started his career with First National City Bank and was the first graduate of the Bank's high school training program, called Fast Track.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1966 through 1972, and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus Catholic fraternal service organization.

A golfer, "the only thing sharper than (Connors') Irish wit was his slice off the tees," his obituary said. "He was quick to light up a room with laughter, but even quicker to offer friendship or a helping hand to anyone in need."

Survived by his wife Patricia, "Gentleman Jack" will be lovingly remembered by many, the obituary added.
