Flood Watch In Effect For Bergen County Sunday Night, With Heavy Rain Predicted

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Sunday afternoon and overnight, with 1 to 2 inches of rain possible in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union counties.

Some areas could receive 3 to 4 inches of rain, which is not quite the 7 inches received in a short time during Tropical Depression Ida, but it's a significant amount.

Forecasters said they are unsure of the exact path of the storms, but thunderstorms and heavy rains are expected any time after 2 p.m. Sunday.

The watch runs from 2 p.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday, and could be extended depending on whether the storms come to pass.

The NWS says:

"A slow moving line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move across the watch area Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will be possible with localized amounts of 3 to 4 inches possible. These totals may result in flash flooding of urban and low lying areas. In addition, some streams may reach flood stage.
