FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — A former director of the Franklin Lakes Recreation Department and former president of Hackensack Golf Club died Wednesday, his obituary published by a local funeral home said.

Thomas Langbein, the Franklin Lakes recreation director for 20 years, earned the title of president emeritus of the golf club. He also founded a brokerage firm and was CEO of Automated Medical Laboratories, which later became Medicore and a subsidiary, his obituary said.

Langbein is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Langbein, who said, in a Facebook post, that the golf club is flying the flag at half-mast this week in his honor.

"I know you would be so humbled & proud," Mary Ellen Langbein said. "Fly high, my love."

His obituary said that Thomas Langbein was a "consummate gentleman" who had a "remarkable ability" to connect with others and loved exploring the world with his wife.

"While his loved ones are devastated by his loss, they know that he was a man of great faith and have comfort in knowing he is at peace now and reuniting with his loved ones," his obituary said.
