Franklin Lakes Car Wash To Benefit Tommy Kid Foundation

The Tommy Kid Foundation works to help find cures for Crohn's disease and lymphoma. It is named after Tommy Oliver, a former late resident.

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — A foundation named in memory of a Franklin Lakes man will host a charity car wash Sunday.

Funds from the car wash will go to the Tommy Kid Foundation. The foundation is named after Tommy Oliver, a 21-year-old who died in October of hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma, a rare and aggressive disease that lowers blood cell counts.

The car wash is Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Access Self Storage on Commerce Street. The cost is $10 per vehicle. Pizza, hot dogs, soda, and water will be available for $1 each. The Franklin Lakes Chamber of Commerce is co-sponsoring the car wash with the foundation.

"The whole goal of the foundation is to contribute to organizations that are finding answers and to hopefully inform people who are inflicted with these types of diseases to find that there are options which may not have been presented to them," said Jack Oliver, Tommy's father. "We’re not trying to give you an answer. We’re trying to lead you to ask questions and make your own call."

The foundation works to find safe treatments and cures for Crohn's disease and hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma. Oliver was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when he was 9.

"Tommy died at a very young age. We need to make sure this doesn’t happen to another individual ever again," said Franklin Lakes Chamber of Commerce President John Morley. "We need to educate other people with hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma to prevent them from becoming mortality statistics."

Residents can RSVP their vehicle on the Franklin Lakes Chamber of Commerce's website.
