Help Keep Bergen County Woman And Her Dog Together After Health Issues
A woman initially soug a local family to temporarily care for her emotional support pet, but may be better off finding a new home for both.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Bergen County-based dog owner who was initially looking for someone to temporarily take care of her emotional support animal is trying a different strategy.
Four years ago, Ariana, who grew up in Glen Rock, moved to Georgia for work. But she began getting rashes of unknown origin.
She ultimately discovered that mold was the cause of the rashes, but she had trouble controlling them, and felt embarrassed in public.

At some point she lost her job, fell into debt, and recently moved back to her childhood home.
Since her father is allergic to dogs, she posted to Patch last month about needing a temporary home for her white German shepherd, Nymeria.

She found a wonderful family nearby who already had a dog, and for a few days, the family seemed like a good fit. But ultimately, they can't keep Nymeria there, Felipe said.
Now, she's trying a new tactic — raising the funds for her own place with Nymeria so she can get back on her feet.
She's also still interested in speaking with other people who may be able to foster nearby.
"I’ve been on this journey for four years and it’s hard for me to ask for help but I need it," she said. "I have a college degree but the rashes have severely impacted my ability to hold a job. I’ve fallen into debt and had to move back to my childhood home which has visible mold and ceiling stains due to ongoing leaks and water damage."
She added, "On top of this, when I moved back home I had to give up my fur baby and emotional support animal, Nymeria, to foster because my dad is severely allergic."
She said, "This has added to my struggling emotional health. I feel like I’m trapped in this cycle I can’t break free from until I get in a safe, mold-free home. Once my skin can heal, I can focus on rebuilding and getting a job!"
"I am one of the most resilient and determined people," she said. "but I feel I am running out of options and need help financially. If it’s in your heart, I would greatly appreciate any donations no matter how small."
Trying Times For Many
Felipe is not alone in her situation. In the last year, shelters have said that many people have given animals up whom they can't afford to care for, often reluctantly.
In at least two instances, dogs have been found wandering with notes tied to them, asking for a good home, including recently in nearby Bloomfield.
And some North Jersey shelters have said recently that they can't take any more animal surrenders for now.
Felipe doesn't want to give Nymeria up. She just wants to live with her, in good health, and get a job.
