BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — How close will Hurricane Erin come to Bergen County, and what's the forecast for this week?
The storm is expected to continue its northwestern track, but it's expected to remain offshore. However, there may be impacts on the wind speed and surf when it nears North Jersey midweek.

Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey Shore directly back in 2012, causing an estimated 30 deaths. Not all storms have to be a direct hit to be damaging; the same number of people in New Jersey are estimated to have lost their lives during flooding from downgraded Tropical Depression Ida in 2021.
As recently as last month, five people lost their lives in storms in New Jersey due to downed trees and floods.
