BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Now that Hurricane Erin brought rounds of rain and rip currents to New Jersey, a new storm system has developed its wake.

Forecasters do not expect Tropical Storm Fernand to move toward the Northeast.

Hurricanes History In North Jersey

Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey Shore directly in late October 2012, causing an estimated 30 deaths.

Not all storms have to be a direct hit to be damaging; the same number of people in New Jersey are estimated to have lost their lives during flooding from downgraded Tropical Depression Ida in 2021.

As recently as last month, five people lost their lives in storms in New Jersey due to downed trees and floods.
