Local School Budget Hearing Tonight

Proposed budget to go before voters on April 27 reflects a $360 savings to the average Franklin Lakes homeowner.

The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will be holding a budget hearing at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Franklin Avenue Middle School. The K-8 district introduced its $27.6 million budget earlier this month.

Tonight's presentation will detail how school officials were able to reduce the tax levy by 3.1 percent, saving the average home owner $360 for a home assessed at $1,032,252, the borough's average.

At last week's Borough Council meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Romano attributed the trim budget to "a little bit of luck and a lot of skill" and noted the local schools are not facing the same problems that many other districts are presently facing.
