Scam Letters Aren't From Us, Says Wyckoff Police Department
At least two different letters asking for donations to a Bergen County police department are fake, police say.
WYCKOFF, NJ — If you get a letter asking you to donate money for bullet-proof vests, or to donate to a sheriff's organization on behalf of the Wyckoff police, it's likely fake, officials said.
The Wyckoff Police Department said last week that residents have gotten at least two kinds of official-looking letters in the mail asking for donations for the local department.
"Several Wyckoff residents have recently reported receiving letters like the ones shown here," they said. "Please be advised: these have no affiliation with the Wyckoff Police Department."

The only group that would ask for donations on their behalf is the Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA), Local 261, they said.
"If you receive a suspicious letter, do not send money or provide personal information," they said. "Stay alert and share this with your neighbors, especially those who may be more vulnerable to these kinds of scams."
