Struggling Pet Owner Looking For Temporary Foster Home For Beloved Dog, Nymeria

A Bergen County resident who moved back home is looking for someone to temporarily foster her emotional support dog while she saves up.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Like many people, Ariana Felipe is between jobs and working toward a more stable situation. She recently left her home in the South with her 3-year-old emotional support dog, Nymeria — whom she got at 8 weeks old — and moved back in with her parents in Glen Rock for a while.

But her dad is allergic to dogs.

While she saves up for a new place to live, Felipe is looking for someone to foster her dog and take good care of her until she is back on her feet.

Felipe is not alone in her situation. In the last year, shelters have said that many people have given animals up whom they can't afford to care for, often reluctantly. In at least two instances, dogs have been found wandering with notes tied to them, asking for a good home, including recently in nearby Bloomfield.

In some cases, shelters were able to find their heartbroken families and reunite them with their pets. And in one case, a woman's relative gave her pet away without her knowledge, after she suffered from a health problem. Felipe is taking good care of her white German shepherd/husky mix, and said she's willing to keep paying for all expenses for her. But she just needs somewhere not too far away for her to live for a while, with a kind, responsible person.

Felipe said, "To clarify, I am not giving her away. I got Nymeria at 8 weeks when I lived in Atlanta, Georgia, she is my baby and my Emotional Support Animal. I made the decision to move back to my hometown, Glen Rock, and am currently living in my parents' home temporarily until I can afford to move out. Unfortunately, my dad is very allergic so I cannot have her in my house."

She added, "I am looking for someone that is willing to house her and care for her — I will pay for all her expenses. Thank you for taking the time out of your day."

She recently posted on Patch:

"Nymeria is a 3 year old female Husky/German Shepherd mix. She loves to be active and spend time outdoors but she also loves to lounge indoors with her family. An ideal space for her would be a house with a large fenced-in backyard for her to run around and play in. She is loving, loves affection, and smart. Nymeria is good with adults, children and other dogs. She loves long walks, trails, dog parks, bodies of water she can play in, and riding in the car.

"Her favorite thing to do when she is inside is look out the window and people watch or sit and watch you go about your daily activities while occasionally dozing off. She loves pup cups and her boney bones, especially her elk bones. She also loves squeaky tennis balls and sticks. She’s a simple girl. Brownie points if you give her tummy rubs and her tongue is hanging out.

"Nymeria would do better living alone without other dogs/animals as that is how she has lived since she was 8 weeks old but it is okay for other dogs to come over to have dog play dates. She is curious and loves to sniff. She is very vocal when she wants things and when she plays. Nymeria is spayed, completely up to date on her vaccines, crate trained, house trained, and microchipped."
