Will Last Few Farms In Bergen County Be Saved? Meeting Planned

Bergen County officials will hold a meeting this week to update the public about how a handful of remaining farms may be preserved.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — New Jersey is still the Garden State, but will it stay that way?

A message from Bergen County last week said seven farms are being preserved in the county, but 42 remain "unpreserved." And more than two-thirds of the county's farmland has been lost to development in the last 42 years.

The New Jersey's Farmland Preservation Program provides support and incentives for farm owners around the state, helping them with financial planning and other activities. While their list of participating farms has none in Essex, Hudson, or Union counties, Bergen still has several on the preservation list.
