Wyckoff Committee's Lone Democrat Resigns

Brian Scanlan is stepping down after more than a decade.

WYCKOFF, NJ – Brian Scanlan, Wyckoff Township committee’s first Democrat to be elected in 75 years, resigned from his seat Tuesday.

His resignation is effective immediately, according to a letter he submitted to the township.

Scanlan, who had a year left in his fourth term, “The last 11 years have been very rewarding, and it has also been a pleasure working with you all.”

He was sworn into his first term in January 2009 and served in 2016 as deputy mayor. In 2017, Scanlan ran for his fourth, and likely final, three-year term, Patch reported at the time.

On Wednesday, Scanlan could not be reached for further comment, however he told NorthJersey.com he plans to commit more time to environmental issues.

The township’s Democrat County Committee has 20 days to select three candidates for the township committee to choose from to fill Scanlan’s seat.
