Wyckoff Cops Help Rt. 495 Driver That Stopped Breathing
Two Wyckoff police officers transporting a prisoner from Weehawken to Hackensack jumped into action Thursday.
WYCKOFF, NJ - Two Wyckoff police officers transporting a prisoner from Weehawken to Hackensack jumped into action Thursday to help a man who fell unresponsive after a motor vehicle accident.
Officer Michael Teegan and Officer Michael Scalise were traveling on Route 495 when they were flagged down by a driver that was involved in a two-car crash, Lt. Joseph Soto said.
The driver told the officers the other motorist was still in his car and not responding, Soto said.

While Scalise remained with the prisoner, he radioed communications and requested assistance from Port Authority Police, Soto said.
Teegan determined the driver was unresponsive, removed him from the vehicle and discovered he was not breathing, Soto said.

Teegan began chest compressions and was quickly joined by Port Authority officers, according to the lieutenant. An automated external defibrillator was hooked up and several shocks were delivered to revive the man.
He was then taken to a local hospital, Soto said.
