Wyckoff Offering ‘Living Safely With Wildlife’ Program

To help educate residents, Wyckoff will present "Living Safely With Wildlife In Your Neighborhood" on Oct. 17 and 28.

WYCKOFF, NJ – In recent years, as sightings of wild animals in suburban areas becomes more common so has the need for residents to know what to do in the event of an encounter.

To help educate residents, Wyckoff will present “Living Safely With Wildlife In Your Neighborhood” on Oct. 17 and 28.

The program, which is open to township residents, will be held in the Shotmeyer Room at the Wyckoff Library. The Oct. 17 program will begin at 11 a.m. while the Oct. 28 one starts at 7 p.m.

The evening will include a presentation by Carol Tyler, who serves as the animal control officer for Wyckoff.

Over the last few months, there have been several local incidents involving coyotes.

In Mahwah, at Ramapo Valley County Reservation, a woman and dog were injured in a separate coyote attacks on Oct. 5, authorities closed down the popular park. It is not known if the same coyote is responsible for the two attacks.

In August, a Wyckoff family's Chihuahua was killed after a coyote snatched the pup from a backyard and carried it away, according to police.

The incident came just days after a Mahwah woman was bitten several times by a coyote. She was ultimately able to force the coyote away by striking it with a baseball bat, police said.
