Wyckoff Students Get Pep Talk From Harlem Wizards During Special Week

WYCKOFF, NJ — Students in Wyckoff had a ball recently when they got an inspirational talk from the Harlem Wizards basketball team.

The Archdiocese of Newark’s 67 schools joined the nationwide observance of Catholic Schools Week ending on Feb. 1, participating in a variety of service and educational events.

Members of the Harlem Wizards basketball team visited St. Elizabeth School on Wyckoff Avenue "to offer a motivational message and showcase [their] signature tricks," said the Archdiocese of Newark.

The events were designed to highlight the "benefits of a faith-based education with a variety of meaningful activities."

Students from Sacred Heart School in Jersey City assembled care packages for a local nursing home.

Students from Hasbrouck Heights’ Corpus Christi School participated in a live game show.

Eighth graders from Westfield’s Holy Trinity School visited a local nursing facility, where they lifted residents’ spirits with bingo and crafts.

Overall, hundreds of students throughout Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties participated in projects that highlighted the values of service, learning, and community Catholic schools instill year-round.
