North Bellmore Superintendent Addresses Dad's Bullying Accusations

Superintendent Arnold Goldstein said that the school district took immediate action when the father of a sixth-grade student at Saw Mill Road Elementary School reported that his son was being severely bullied.

Greg, a North Bellmore resident, who asked to have his last name withheld, claimed that his son was bullied by the same boy for the entire school year and nothing was done about it.

"My son's sixth grade was ruined and I find that unacceptable," Greg said.

However, Goldstein said that the father hadn't reported an incident to the district until mid-May and the problem was dealt right away.

"He is saying his child was bullied all year, but he did not bring it to the district until May," Goldstein said. "And I cannot comment on the consequences, but a serious penalty was imposed."

A document from the Nassau County Police Department confirmed that Greg filed a report with them on May 29.

Goldstein said that the district does not take bullying lightly.

"This is one of our priorities," he said. "We make sure that every child is treated with respect and dignity as well as the adults."
