90-Year-Old Killed By Hit-and-Run Moped Rider

The incident happened at East 14th Street and Avenue U in Brooklyn.

BROOKLYN, NY — A 90-year-old man was fatally struck by a moped as he tried to cross the street in Brooklyn Tuesday morning, police said.

The man was walking in the crosswalk at East 14th Street and Avenue U around 9:30 a.m. when he was struck by a blue moped, police said. He suffered severe head trauma.

The moped had been travelling southbound on East 14th Street with a green traffic light.

The victim was taken to NYU Langone Health-Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The 90-year-old has since been identified as Zhuo Xie, of Brooklyn.

The moped driver sped off after the incident and did not remain at the scene.

No arrests have been made as of Wednesday afternoon.
