Brooklyn Teen Shot Dead; Another Teen Charged, NYPD Says

A teenage boy was arrested after allegedly gunning down another teen just steps from a Brooklyn public school.

BROOKLYN, NY — Another teenager has been arrested in connection with last month's fatal shooting of 18-year-old Zanir Child's on a Brooklyn street, police said.

An unidentified 17-year-old was arrested Monday and charged with murder, assault and criminal possession of a firearm in connection with the May 17 slaying, police said.

The shooting took place around 9:55 p.m. across the street from Public School 36 in East New York. According to police, the victim—identified as Childs—lived about half a mile away in the Boulevard Houses.

Childs was shot in the torso during the gunfire and rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where he was pronounced dead.

An 18-year-old woman was also struck in the crossfire and taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her right arm.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was arrested and charged on June 2, at 12:45 p.m., police said.
