Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

  1. Earlier this week, an Orthodox Jewish man was beaten in Brooklyn in an apparent antisemitic attack. The 26-year-old victim was chased down by two individuals who struck him with an "unknown object," leaving him with lacerations to the head. This vicious attack marks the third time that a Jewish man was attacked in Brooklyn in only a two-week span. (The Jerusalem Post)
  2. On Thursday, the NYPD distributed COVID-19 tests to the Middle Eastern community at the Arab American Family Support Center in Downtown Brooklyn. Capt. Harry Marachilian, who was raised in the neighborhood by Egyptian and Palestinian parents, speaks fluent Arabic and is the president of the NYPD’s Middle East and Turkic Society. Marachilian and his fellow officers have worked hard to give back to a community in need during the pandemic. (WPIX 11 New York)
  3. Permits have been filed for an 11-story mixed-use building at 50 Sackman St. in Ocean Hill. The 83,976 square-foot development will house 123 residences, as well as 526 square feet dedicated to commercial space. Demolition permits have not yet been obtained for the single-story building on the site. (New York YIMBY)
