Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:

  1. A Brooklyn teen raised thousands to provide for community members in need. 13-year-old Obocho Peters, 13, started upon his philanthropic path at the age of nine when he began selling gently used clothes and shoes, while using the funds to buy toys for families who could not afford them. This year, when he was unable to raise enough funds to host the planned Oktoberfest Pop-Up Pantry, he instead hosted a free farmstand with his mother, where they distributed 25 free Thanksgiving turkeys to their neighbors. Visit Ochobo's GoFundMe in order to help his charitable causes. (Brooklyn Paper)
  2. This week the New York City Council is expected to pass the bill banning gas hookups in new buildings, while the community continues to fight against the North Brooklyn Pipeline, which brings in natural gas through areas of Brooklyn. Brooklyn residents have opposed the gas lines being installed by National Grid for years. Residents and activists are now focused on fighting a permit that National Grid has applied for in order to install two new vaporizers at its Greenpoint facility. (bushwickdaily.com)
  3. Last Thursday, Dec. 9, it was falsely reported that a Brooklyn woman who was a former probation officer was arrested. Swan Williams has, in fact, never been affiliated with the New York City Department of Probation. Find the link to the amended article here. (Patch)
