Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
- New York City Councilmember Justin Brannan and Democrat Ari Kagan won their City Council races in Districts 43 and 47, respectively. Brannan will continue his role as Councilman of the 43rd District, while Kagan secured a victory over Republican Mark Szuszkiewicz. The apparent wins come as a relief to Democrats, who have experienced a wave of losses across the state and the nation. (Brooklyn Paper)
- Attorney General Letitia James announced the conviction of 29-year-old Otis Barnes after he used the personal identifying information of a 90-year old Staten Island resident to cash forged money orders. Barnes pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, and will face 1.5 to 3 years in prison. James said, "Today’s conviction should serve as a message to all that we will not allow illegal schemes like this to go unchecked, and that we will hold those accountable to the fullest extent of the law." (New York State Attorney General)
