Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

  1. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the launch of a digital placard system in North Brooklyn, geared towards cracking down on the abuse of parking privileges. The introduction of handheld electronic devices for NYPD Traffic Enforcement Agents will allow them to determine the legitimacy of parking permits. The program's phased rollout will begin in North Brooklyn, and will continue with an emphasis on Downtown Brooklyn. (nyc.gov)
  2. One resident was left injured after a fire in Prospect Heights. Just after 5 a.m. on Thursday morning, the fire broke out on the top floor of a six-story building on Eastern Parkway. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. (WABC-TV)
  3. The Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition (BBAWC) were announced as recipients of a $25,000 grant from Petco Love. The annual competition collects joyful stories of animal adoption from rescues and shelters nationwide. (Brooklyn Paper)
