Driver Nabbed In Deadly Brooklyn Hit-And-Run

The driver was arrested in Brooklyn on Monday.

BROOKLYN, NY — A driver who is accused of killing a 55-year-old pedestrian in Clinton Hill earlier this summer was arrested in Brooklyn on Monday.

Raymond Campbell, 65, surrendered himself to police in the 88th precinct, which includes Clinton Hill, Fort Green Park, and Commodore Barry Park, just after 9 a.m.

Nearly two months after a deadly crash on May 17, Campbell is now facing charges for leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

According to police, Campbell was driving a burgundy Ford Explorer westbound on Fulton Street in Clinton Hill around 12:20 a.m. when he struck 55-year-old Frederick Solomon as he crossed Washington Street.

When police arrived at the scene, emergency responders rushed Solomon to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Campbell, who fled the scene after the crash, was later located by police at his second home in Pennsylvania, according to officials.

There have been 34 traffic fatalities in Brooklyn this year and 40 last year at this time, according to New York City Police Department data.
