Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
- The East New York Industrial Business Zone (IBZ) as the 40,000 square-foot Legion Lighting warehouse on Glenmore Avenue was put on the market while the company plans to relocate to Long Island. Mayor Bill de Blasio made a commitment to the neighborhood in 2016 to bring 3,900 jobs to the IBZ as part of a rezoning plan. Community leaders in the neighborhood have argued that the opposite is true, and the local business has grown more stagnate in recent years. (eastnewyork.com)
- The NYPD are trying to identify a suspect who was caught on video stealing the purse of a 70-year-old Brooklyn woman. Police say the suspect got away with $60 cash and her bank cards. Anyone with information regarding the crime is encouraged to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). (CBS New York)
- Development is underway on the long-awaited Shirley Chisholm Rec Center in East Flatbush. The $141 million, 65,000 square-foot complex will top what is currently a turf field at the Nostrand Playground on Farragut Place. The new recreation facility will include an indoor pool, indoor track, a basketball court, and a gym where kids can take classes in disciplines like yoga, spin, and martial arts. (Brooklyn Paper)
