Man Dies, Woman, Child Hurt In Brooklyn Apartment Fire: Reports
Vehicles blocking fire hydrants slowed the response, an FDNY fire commissioner said.

BROOKLYN, NY — A man died and a woman and child were injured in an apartment fire in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn early Sunday, according to reports.
The fire in a four-story building on 80th Street was reported about 3:40 a.m., the New York Post reported.
Firefighters searching the building found a 37-year-old man unconscious, 1010 WINS reported. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released, the report said.

They also found a 34-year-old woman and a 2-year-old boy who were taken to a hospital, the 1010 WINS report said. Both were critically injured but are stable, the report said.
It was not immediately known if the three people were related, the reports said.

More than 60 firefighters responded to battle the blaze, which was brought under control in about an hour, AM New York reported.
The response was slowed by vehicles blocking fire hydrants closest to the building, FDNY Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said in a tweet Sunday afternoon.
"Early Sunday, our members responded to a deadly fire on 5th Avenue and 80th Street in Brooklyn. When they arrived, two cars were blocking the two closest fire hydrants to the fire building — slowing down our response to a fire that tragically turned fatal," Tucker wrote.
"Seconds count in an emergency, and the FDNY is begging New Yorkers in all five boroughs: Please DO NOT block fire hydrants. There’s no time to waste working around a parked car when lives are on the line," he wrote.
