Man Shot Near NYC School; Suspect Still At Large, Police Say
Police are searching for a shooter after a 29-year-old man was shot on a Brooklyn street, authorities said.

BROOKLYN, NY — Police are seeking a suspect after a 29-year-old man was hit with gunfire on a residential Brooklyn block this weekend, according to police.
Police are searching for an unidentified shooter in connection with an early morning July 5 shooting. The incident was first reported around 1:32 a.m. when staff at Brookdale University Hospital alerted authorities that a shooting victim had arrived, police said.
Law enforcement sources identified the victim as 29-year-old Tyrone Simmons of Williams Avenue, Brooklyn. He was shot in the chest and brought to the hospital privately, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police determined that Simmons was shot near 574 Dumont Avenue, between Williams and Alabama Avenues—just steps from the school complex that includes the closed P.S. 174 and the college preparatory School of The Future.
Police have not disclosed whether Simmons knew his attacker or if he was the intended target. The motive for the shooting remains unknown.

No arrests have been made so far in the active and ongoing investigation.
