Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
- Several Brooklyn NYCHA properties were converted to private ownership late last year, but tenants have continued to face a number of issues including heat outages in the now-privately owned housing units. East New York’s Linden Houses and the neighboring Penn Wortman Houses are two such properties that were granted over $400 million for repair work as part of the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program. Two weeks since the conversion that was intended to fix these problems, tenants are dealing with many of the same issues, as well as new issues in their apartments. (Brownstoner)
- During omicron, Brooklyn schools are facing difficult questions as to how to proceed with in-person versus remote learning. Students and teachers believe a remote-learning option is necessary as so many students are absent from in-person classes. There are some 3,700 students at Brooklyn's Edward R. Murrow High School, approximately one third of whom are at home and not receiving proper education during their quarantine periods. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
- Winston Glynn, 30, was arrested in Brooklyn and charged with the killing of a cashier at a Manhattan Burger King. Police say that Glynn entered the eatery and attacked the manager and a customer with the butt of a pistol, and then demanded money from the cashier, 19-year-old Kristal Bayron-Nieves. The suspect was given $100 cash but still fired his weapon, shooting the victim in the stomach. (FOX 5 NY)
