Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:

  1. One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale gave back to the Brownsville community in a big way in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Their team distributed 1,000 bags of produce and dried goods to the community as part of their ongoing food giveaway program. Doctors have said that the OBH-Brookdale has been able to give out 15,000 of these such food packages to the community since the onset of the pandemic. (Brooklyn Paper)
  2. Brooklyn has been in the midst of an ongoing commercial real estate boom according to the latest quarterly report from Colliers International. The report indicates that the borough's leasing activity has more than tripled since the third quarter of 2021. In addition, Brooklyn's average rent average increased by 1.6 percent since September 2021. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  3. State authorities arrested a Brooklyn man for burglary, criminal mischief, and grand larceny in connection with a 2020 crime in the town of Monroe, N.Y. The police responded to an alarm at a local Best Buy and were able to arrest one of three suspects in a traffic stop, wherein they discovered 228 Samsung smartphones worth over $249,000. Nearly two years since the incident they were able to identify one of the two suspects who had fled on foot. (nyspnews.com)
