Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
- Attorney General Letitia James' office is investigating the Nov. 11 Belt Parkway shooting that left 65-year-old Brian Astarita dead in Bath Beach, Brooklyn. This probe comes as part of a state law that requires the AG's office to look into any incident that results in a death caused by a police officer. Astarita allegedly brandished a weapon and pointed it at police officers before being killed. (Brooklyn Paper)
- A pedestrian incident was reported at the Union St. subway station in Park Slope. Police reported that a pedestrian was struck by an oncoming Manhattan-bound train at 5:44 p.m. on Nov. 13. EMS rendered aid to the pedestrian and transported them to a local hospital. (Local Accident Reports)
- Kevin Fountaine, head football coach of Poly Prep Country Day School, was fired due to the existence of a "toxic culture" among the team. Poly Prep's prestigious football program had recently been shook by accusations of sexual abuse by former football coach Philip Foglietta, who left in 1991. Headmaster Audrius Barzdukas has cited players cutting classes and being disrespectful to members of the school's LGBT community as reasons for the abrupt firing. (New York Post )
