Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
- A 15-year-old girl was killed by a school bus in a Sheepshead Bay hit-and-run incident. The victim was in the crosswalk and had the right of way as a pedestrian when she was struck by the bus driver. Police arrested 55-year-old Brooklyn resident Aleksandr Patlakh, and witnesses say that he had children onboard his bus when the incident occurred. (ABC7 NY)
- A man was hit in the head by an oncoming Q train at Barclays Center while trying to retrieve his backpack. The victim was bent down on the platform when he was struck by the train, not on the tracks. The 23-year-old man was rushed to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in critical condition. (Brooklyn Reader)
- The NYPD are searching for a woman accused of spitting on a child in Brooklyn after making antisemitic remarks towards him. The suspect was caught on surveillance video verbally attacking the 8 year old and two other children in Marine Park, before she allegedly returned to spit on the boy. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline. (CBS New York)
- An East New York homeowner was wrongfully fined $295,000 for a neighbor's violations. The massive amount of penalties ranged from minor unpaid sanitation fines to more serious ones such as a $60,000 fine for an illegal dwelling and a partial vacate order. After months she was able to remove her name from her neighbor's property, and the fines were dismissed. (WABC-TV)
