Take a look at the sweet and savory treats at the new Bien Cuit that opened this week on Franklin Avenue.
CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — One of Brooklyn's best bread bakeries opened its first location in Crown Heights this week.
Bien Cuit, which has been serving up sweet and savory treats on Smith Street for about a decade, launched a new bakery at 721 Franklin Ave. near Park Place Tuesday, owners Kate Wheatcroft and Zachery Golper announced.
“Most of our inspiration for opening this store was that so many of our original customers from Boerum Hill had moved to Crown Heights over the years," said Wheatcroft.

"We are always getting requests to come to the neighborhood from those who happen to be passing through the original store, so when we noticed our favorite building on the street was for rent, we just had to do it.”
The Crown Heights location will serve up a wide selection of breads, sandwiches, quiche, tartines and sweets from Golper, the head baker who's earned Bien Cuit James Beard nominations for the past five years.

Only the Franklin Avenue outpost will serve Bluefish Tartine with preserved lemon, Pumpkin Craquelin filled with pastry cream and miso caramel, and the French pastry Cannele de Bordeaux, owners said.
The 30-seat cafe will also serve coffee and tea from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
