BROOKLYN, NY — Polls opened early Tuesday across New York City as Brooklynites cast their ballots in a crowded 2025 primary election.

Turnout is expected to be strong this year, thanks in part to the high-profile mayoral race. But Brooklyn voters will also weigh in on several key local offices, including borough president and City Council seats—all decided through the city’s ranked-choice voting system.

Over 142,000 Brooklyn residents cast their ballots during New York City’s nine-day early voting period—more than twice the number who voted early in the 2021 mayoral primary, according to the Board of Elections.

That total leads all five boroughs in early turnout this year, outpacing Manhattan, which saw 122,642 early votes.
