Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
- State Senator Brian Kavanagh, along with Assembly member Emily Gallagher, are calling upon Gov. Kathy Hochul to ensure that their bill banning gas hookups is implemented. The All Electric Building Act was introduced last year, and the two local legislators are pushing to include the bill in this year's state budget. If passed, the bill would ban municipalities from issuing gasoline permits to new buildings by the end of 2023. (Brooklyn Paper)
- The NYPD are searching for a suspect in a racist attack on a northbound 4 subway train in Brooklyn. The suspect allegedly made anti-Mexican remarks to a family seated next to him, before he punched a 14-year-old boy in the face and fled the scene on foot. The teen was riding with his mother and 11-year-old brother and suffered a cut to his nose. This assault is being investigated by the NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force. (ABC 7 NY)
- Police arrested the suspect in an antisemitic attack on two Jewish men, one of whom was wearing a sweatshirt with the Israel Defense Forces emblem. Suleiman Othman, 27, was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree and hate crime, and aggravated harassment and hate crime. The Staten Island man insulted the two victims before giving one of them "five seconds to take off that sweatshirt" before he attacked them. (Algemeiner)
