Homophobic Slasher Attacks With Box Cutter Near BK Promenade: NYPD

Police are investigating an attack on a 21-year-old in Brooklyn Heights as a hate crime.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY — A slasher spewing anti-LGBTQIA+ hate speech attacked a young man with a box cutter near the Brooklyn promenade this month, according to police.

The stranger attacked made his hateful remark then lunged at the 21-year-old near Cranberry and Willow streets about 2:50 p.m. on Aug. 1, according to the NYPD.

The young man's hand injuries were serious enough to require hospitalization at NYU Langone Hospital in Cobble Hill, police said.

The suspected slasher ran, and police had not made any arrests Thursday, police said.

The attack comes just over a week after professional dancer O'Shae Sibley was fatally stabbed in Brooklyn in a suspected hate crime, according to police.

His suspected stabber had made homophobic and anti-Black remarks, authorities said.
