  1. Police arrested a 14-year-old student at a Brooklyn high school for attempting to carry a loaded handgun into the school building. The weapon was detected in his backpack by an X-ray machine at Automotive High School on Bedford Avenue. Last week alone, five guns were confiscated at schools throughout the city, prompting Mayor Bill de Blasio to begin conducting unannounced screenings. (CBS New York)
  2. A New York City bar owner was indicted on fatal manslaughter charges, among others, for his role in the hit-and-run killing of Brooklyn father Antonio Gonzalez. Ramsaran Mahabeersingh will face up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The alleged incident occurred on Sept. 22, 2019 near Crescent Street in Cypress Hills. (SILive.com)
  3. New York Attorney General and Brooklyn native Letitia James plans to run for New York Governor. James began her career as a public defender at the Legal Aid Society before serving on the New York City Council for Brooklyn for 10 years. 4. New York state trooper Christopher Baldner was charged with murder for his role in a car crash resulting in the death of 11-year-old Brooklyn native, Monica Goods. Baldner pulled over the Goods' family car in a routine traffic stop, wherein Goods' father fled. Baldner allegedly struck the rear-end of the vehicle during the chase, which ejected the 11-year-old from the vehicle. (WABC-TV)
  5. Brooklyn senior residents of the Pink Houses in East New York successfully raised $230,000 for a new outdoor fitness hub. After three years of planning, organizing, and working with local elected officials, they were able to see their dream become a reality.
