Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
- Tragedy in DUMBO as a window washer fell 19 floors to his death. Investigators are looking into the state of the worker's equipment, as it is believed that his harness may have broken. The name of the 34-year-old man from Harrison, New Jersey has not been disclosed. (WABC-TV)
- 37-year-old Coney Island resident Jawhar Edwards was brutally attacked and robbed while passing out food to the homeless on the Coney Island boardwalk. Edwards suffered a broken eye socket in the attacks, and is calling for the 21-year-old suspect, Infenet Millington, to be charged with a hate crime for the incident. Members of the community have rallied behind Edwards in support, and "are using what happened as a renewed call to action" to protect the LGBTQ community. (WABC-TV)
- Ground broke this week on the continued restoration of the Prospect Park ballfields. The revamping of ballfields 2 and 3 on the Long Meadow mark the last of the seven fields that are being redone as part of the ongoing project. The restoration will improve drainage on the ballfields, install new pathways and benches, new shaded dugouts, and new clay storage bins around the fields. (Brooklyn Paper)
- A rollover auto accident in Sunset Park left one injured. The impact of the two vehicles colliding caused one to rollover leaving the driver trapped inside. Firefighters were able to extricate the trapped individual who was transferred to a local hospital. (Local Accident Reports)
