CENTRAL PARK, NY — A body was discovered in a Central Park playground early Monday morning, authorities said.

NYPD officers responded to a call for a dead body in the Heckscher Playground near East 62nd Street about 8:35 a.m., police said.

At the scene, police found an unidentified man with “multiple lacerations” to his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause of death, police said. The investigation remains ongoing.

The deceased is believed to be a man in his 30s, the New York Post reported, citing police sources. He was reportedly found with a shoelace tied around his neck.

Heckscher Playground, which opened in 1926, is Central Park's largest and oldest playground. It features slides, swings and, notably, Umpire Rock, the iconic scalable rock formation.
